Busing - FRANK ROBERTS JUNIOR HIGH BUS ROUTES
Buses will commence their runs as scheduled by NLSchools. Bus planner information and routes are online under the transportation portal. Questions regarding busing should be directed to our District transportation team using the Public Inquiry Form as schools are not involved in transportation decision making. If you are dropping your child off at Frank Roberts Junior High please ensure that you continue a continuous flow of traffic as students exit the vehicle as safely and efficiently as possible.
For those who may need to avail of Courtesy Seating, please complete an application. We will process these as quickly as possible but it does take a few weeks so we can get an accurate count of our bus riders to know how much space we have.
School Calendar
The 2025-2026 NLSchools Calendar and FRJH School Google Calendar can be located on our Website. We also have an Assessment Calendar on our website so all students and families can be aware of all scheduled assessments.
Breakfast Program
Grab and Go breakfast will be available to all students starting this week. We will be starting prepared breakfasts in the next couple weeks. We are sponsored by Kids Eat Smart and any donations are appreciated. If you are interested in volunteering with our breakfast program please email ashleykeating@nlschools.ca and complete all appropriate documentation on the Volunteering Section of our Website.
Chartwells Eats
We Have Great News, Frank Roberts Junior High will be moving to a Pay-What-You-Can School Lunch Program. We will transitioning to this program over the next few weeks. In the meantime new school year brings new beginnings, and one new beginning for us this year is our food services. With all new beginnings, change brings questions, and we want to take this opportunity to highlight some key components for lunches next week and beyond so that everyone who requires a lunch will receive one:
Next Week (week of Monday September 8 to Monday September 12):
There are two options available for next week:
Order in advance via the new ordering platform: The ordering window for this week only has been extended until end of day Sunday on the new Chartwells Eats ordering platform. If you would like to order a lunch for your child, please use the Chartwells Eats platform. Note: you will need to create a new account. The link to the website is: https://www.chartwellsk12.ca/
Important: Going forward, all meals will be purchased in advance via the online platform
If you are unable to order before the Sunday cut off, families should send along a packed lunch for students
Coming Soon:
The Pay What You Can program will be coming in October. Please see the THREE documents linked below for more information. Additional communication will follow at a later date to provide updates on the ordering process as we get closer.
Forms, Permission Slips and Money Collection
We will be using Rycor this year for our online forms, permission slips and collection of any money. Please create an account and read more on our website.
Medication
On occasion, it becomes necessary for children to receive prescribed medication at school. Please be aware that in order to do so, NLSchools require the completion of both a parent and physician form. You may contact the office to get forms or they are available from the NLSchools website
If your child has to take medication during school hours, a parent/guardian must bring this medication to school in the pharmacy labeled bottle which has the child’s name and the correct dosage information as per the physician form. Phone ahead to make arrangements and a staff member will meet you at the door to take the medication.
If your child has anaphylaxis, you must have one epipen with the child and one for the office. Proper paperwork must be completed for this as well. This is required.
Allergy Alert
We have students/staff attending our school who have severe allergies to the following products: Peanuts, Tree nuts, All Nuts, Fish, Eggs, Sesame Seeds, Pineapple
If your child has an allergy or medical condition please contact our guidance team michellependergast@nlschools.ca so we can be aware and help keep your child safe.
We ask for your cooperation in not sending these items to school with your child.
We also have students/teachers with allergies to various perfumes/scents. For this reason, students and parents must refrain from wearing scented products when on school property. Also, students should not be bringing body spray/perfume into the building. In the event we become aware of other known allergens, we will alert you as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Attendance
We are encouraging families to use the Safe Arrival App to submit absences. If this is not an option you can email any absences to frankrobertsjrh@nlschools.ca
Regular student attendance is directly tied to achievement in school and we want to ensure that every child is able to perform and succeed to his or her potential. Students who miss time may
experience gaps in their learning, may feel less confident in school, may struggle to complete work and may even develop social concerns. Therefore, regular consistent attendance is extremely important as is arriving at school on time.
We are more than willing to work with you to ensure your child is attending regularly and feeling safe and cared for at school. If attendance becomes a concern for your child’s teacher, as per district policy, they will make contact with you to help resolve any concerns. If concerns cannot be resolved, he/she will then inform the office and we will follow up with you to provide further assistance.
PowerSchool
PowerSchool is our student information system that contains information on your students' attendance and academic progress. Please visit the Parent/Student Powerschool login Portal, we highly encourage our 7-9 students and families to make use of this resource. You can get your username and password from the office.
FRJH Community Open House (Curriculum Night)
Our Community Open House is on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025 from 6:30-7:30. We are excited to see you Wednesday evening and kick off the 2025-2026 school year. We will all meet in the gym for some Awesome videos and messages and then families will have time for a self guided tour throughout the school.
Homeroom and Class Change Requests
Administration will not be processing any class change requests at this time. It is a very lengthy process to create class lists. That is why we ask for any class requests from families in May of every year as it requires input from multiple sources and we work diligently to try and meet all requests. It is also important that we are keeping class size as equitable as possible. We still have a number of new students transferring in and, until all students have been placed in a class and we have a clearer idea of numbers, the priority is to ensure all students are scheduled with a teacher in the appropriate program(for example English, LFI or EFI) and the schedule is running smoothly.
Cell Phone Expectations for the 2025-26 School Year
Please visit our Personal Electronic Device(PED) Policy on our school website, it clearly outlines the expectations at FRJH. Please see some important points outlined below.
Students are encouraged not to bring PED’s to school.
Students are NOT PERMITTED to use their PED’s during Instructional hours (Instructional hours are defined as homeroom and periods 1-5), including in the halls and bathrooms.
Students who bring PED’s to school must switch it off or put it on airplane mode and turn off notifications; and must store it out of sight during instructional hours.
PED’s cannot be stored on a student’s body (e.g. in a student’s clothing) during instructional hours.
All students are provided with an initial combination lock for their locker.
PED’s are NOT PERMITTED to be used at any time during the school hours in the bathrooms.
Students are PERMITTED to use their PED’s during recess and lunch.
School Pictures
Picture Day is set for Monday October 7, 2024. All students will get their pictures taken during that day.
Fire Drills, Lockdowns and Secure School Drills
It will be common practice for us to complete Fire Drills and Lockdown Drills regularly throughout the school year to help ensure that we are as prepared as possible. We will continually reflect on our drills to find areas where we may be able to improve.
In addition, we use Secure Schools as a tool on a regular basis to help restrict student movement throughout the halls. Teaching and learning will continue as normal, but students do not move from classes until the Secure School is lifted. Secure Schools can be very useful in numerous circumstances such as major water spills in high traffic areas, someone may be injured or need assistance in common areas, someone may be sick and need a moment to recover, when we are dealing with complex situations, etc. The point is to protect the integrity, safety and anonymity of all within our school community when possible to the best of our ability
Please be assured that we will contact home as efficiently and effectively as possible when needed and if there is something important we need to report to families.
