Student Guidelines for Examinations
Students are expected to review and follow these guidelines
1. Examination Preparation:
Ensure you arrive with all necessary materials (pens, pencils, erasers, calculators,Chromebooks, etc)
All students are asked to use the washroom prior to entering the exam room
Ensure you know your examination schedule. All exams will be completed in your homeroom.
Familiarize yourself with the outcomes being assessed for your examination, ensuring you understand what content will be covered.
2. Attendance and Communication:
Attendance will be taken at the start of the examination.
You should not miss an examination.
If you miss an examination, a family/caregiver is required to email shanewelcher@nlschools.ca with the rationale for the absence and to establish a plan to complete the Midterm. Plans will be developed on a case by case basis.
3. Follow Instructions:
Pay close attention to the instructions provided by your teacher or supervisor at the start of the examination.
Raise your hand if you have any questions.
4. Academic Integrity:
Cheating or any form of misconduct is strictly prohibited. Work independently and do not discuss the examination with others.
All electronic devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, should be left in your locker. If this is not possible, they must be turned off and stored away at the front of the classroom.
Bookbags and Jackets/coats should be stored in your locker. These are not permitted in classrooms at any time.
5. Classroom Examination Procedures:
Examinations will be conducted in homerooms.
During scheduled exam periods, teachers will move to their scheduled classes and students will stay in homerooms.
You must remain in the class until the end of the exam, even if you finish early.
You should check your exam to ensure you have the correct number of pages. All questions should follow a logical sequence.
You must put your name and teacher’s name on all exam papers you use.
You are not permitted to bring food or drinks into their exam.
Use your time wisely.
6. Washroom Protocol:
All students are asked to use the washroom prior to entering the exam room.
Washroom use should be limited and only one student may visit the washroom at a time, if washroom use is required.
If you are required to use the washroom, you must not ask to retrieve and take your cell phone and smartwatch from the front of the room.
7. Special Accommodations:
Case managers will touch base with applicable students prior to exam week to arrange accommodations. These must be planned in advance and will not be available to decide the day of.
8. Active Engagement:
The supervising teacher will be monitoring the room actively. Avoid any suspicious behaviour, as it will be addressed immediately.
Supervisors will not assist with examination content but can clarify instructions if you have an exceptionality. This does not mean giving you extra information that leads to answers to questions.
9. Post-Examination Protocol:
Remain seated, teachers will move from class to class when the bell rings.
Follow the procedures for submitting your examination and any other materials.
Respect the confidentiality of the examination and do not discuss it with peers until the appropriate time.
